Behavior Support Basics for Out-of-School Time Programs

Session Description: This session introduces foundational concepts related to behavior support in out-of-school time programs. Participants explore how reframing behavior as communication, building proactive systems, teaching regulation skills, and responding calmly in the moment contribute to more positive and predictable OST environments. The session highlights practical strategies that support both kids and staff, including shared language and team consistency. Throughout the course, participants are encouraged to reflect on their own practice and identify small, sustainable shifts that strengthen behavior support in their programs.
Developing Literacy with STEM
Set TWO | Learning Environments and Curriculum | 2 Hours
Literacy and STEM learning can work hand-in-hand to create engaging and meaningful educational experiences. In this course, participants explore STEM processes that help design and develop creative learning opportunities while supporting literacy development. Participants will learn how to integrate reading, writing, and communication into hands-on STEM activities that inspire curiosity and discovery.
Process Based Art in Afterschool

Process-based art encourages creativity, exploration, and self-expression. In this course, participants learn how to facilitate art experiences that focus on the creative process rather than the final product. Participants will explore activities, strategies, and resources that inspire youth to experiment, create, and develop confidence in their artistic abilities.
Inclusion & Belonging in School Age Programs
Set ONE | Special Needs | 1 Hour
This Knowledge Nugget will identify what exclusion, segregation, integration, and inclusion looks like in out-of-school-time programs. Person-First and Identify-First language will be explained so that you will be confident during conversations with families, youth, and staff. We’ll identify the benefits of inclusion for all children and youth in your program, not just those with disabilities or learning differences.
