During the schoolyear, Camp Fire works in partnership with dozens of schools in the Metro Area. During the summer months, we offer summer camps in the Portland metro area and at our beautiful 552-acre camp, Camp Namanu, bordered by the vibrant Sandy River and presided over by century old trees. Our programs directly serve over 4,000 kids ages 5- 18 each year across an eight-county area, including the greater Portland metro region. What the role offers:

Before & After School Program Specialist will increase their experience and expertise in solo teaching, teamwork and outcome-based lesson planning. This position will support growth and training in areas of youth development and culturally-responsive programming, including best practices in racial equity, social justice, mentoring, academic enrichment, behavior management, youth adult partnerships, life-skills, and leadership development.




About the role:

The Before & After School Program Specialist is responsible for planning and teaching sequenced club-style lessons in after school settings for up to 15 youth, while helping manage day-to-day directives that support the overall health of the program and follow Office of Child Care (OCC) health and safety licensing guidelines. The Before & After School Program Specialist will strive to achieve youth development outcomes by engaging program participants in academic enrichment and support creative arts, active recreation, community building, community-based learning, social-emotional growth and leadership activities through a trauma-informed lens while partnering with district representatives in an ever-changing direct service climate.




Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This role will come in contact with students, campers, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. This includes race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity, and other identities. This role requires sustaining an inclusive and equitable learning and working environments by having respectful and considerate behavior, thoughtful and constructive speech to all.

Direct instruction of participants in a before and after school program setting while maintaining program expectations and supporting positive behavior interventions.
Create project-based learning activities and design lesson plans using various resources to facilitate active engagement of participants in learning.
Have or gain awareness of OCC licensing policies and COVID-19 safety protocols and maintain program compliance with state licensing standards in partnership with program leadership.
Support district partnerships through appropriate facility use, setting clear expectations



Job Duties:

Submit written lesson plans, community-based learning plans and supply needs on a scheduled basis determined by site teams and leadership.
Work within school policies, confidentiality requirements and understand behavioral management systems.
Be a role model for positive youth development practices, youth-adult partnerships and mentoring.
Participate in recruitment and retention of program participants.
Participate in outreach to families and coordinating family engagement activities virtual and in-person.
Support staff and program participants during field trips.
Attend Camp Fire meetings and events either in person or remotely as required
Assist Site Supervisor and program leadership with program and administrative functions.
Ensure policies and practices are followed that lead to safe and successful program experiences for all participants and staff.
Quickly adapt to OCC licensing rule changes and safety guidelines.
Be a role model for enjoyment, integrity and dedication in the work of Camp Fire.
Support the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance for all scheduled shifts.
Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
Display the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
Work and support full day program on non-school days.
Respectfully take direction from site supervisor and program leadership.
Other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities. Site staff members will work together as a team under the leadership of their Site Supervisor, cluster Multi-site Coordinator, and/or Department Director.
